People in the border areas of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka heaved a sigh of relief on Wednesday as the vehicular movement, which was stopped following the Cauvery row, resumed after nearly a month between the two states.
All transport vehicles, including private buses and trucks, with Tamil Nadu registration number plate started their operations from Sathyamangalam border area in Erode district to Mysuru. Likewise, vehicles bearing Karnataka registration also entered Tamil Nadu with passengers welcoming the return of normalcy in the border areas.
However, state-owned buses are yet to resume services with officials planning to operate their services from Chennai, Krishnagiri, Coimbatore, Erode and Nilgiris to Karnataka. "We will decide on the matter this evening," a senior official from Transport Department said.
Tamil Nadu State Lorry Owners' Federation of Tamil Nadu, which claimed that the truck owners have incurred loss of more than Rs 2,000 crore, also decided to operate the lorries from Wednesday.
Normal life was affected in Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border areas since September 6 following the agitation over release of Cauvery water.
