Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials on Saturday penalised several hotel owners for not following hygiene, implementing the plastic ban and poor garbage segregation practices.
Palike Joint Commissioners accompanied by health inspectors, health officers and link workers undertook surprise inspections of hotels across east, west, south, Mahadevapura, Rajarajeswari Nagar and Yelahanka zones. A total of nine hotels were visited and penalty was collected from various hotels. About 70 kg plastic was seized from hotels.
At south zone about Rs 50,000 was collected as penalty. Two bakeries were closed at Mahadevapura for non-compliance with ban order on use of plastic items. The Palike officials said that the inspection went on from Saturday evening till late night.
