A 25-year-old student went missing from Jawaharlal Nehru University on Friday said students. His parents filed a missing complaint on Sunday morning at Vasant Kunj Police Station.
Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union organised a protest near their North Gate on Sunday night against the university authorities to push them to file an FIR.
According to students, Najeeb went missing from JNU after a fight with some students in his hostel.
Some students who were campaigning for hostel elections in Mahi Mandvi hostel came to Najeeb's room on Friday. There was a scuffle regarding something after which Najeeb had allegedly slapped one of them, said a student.
The students came back after sometime in a mob and beat up Najeeb badly, said Sucheta De, a student and All India Students Association member.
JNUSU president, Mohit K Pandey and other students were present there at the time of the incident, they said the fight took place in front of the wardens but no one intervened.
Najeeb who was injured was confined to his room, as advised by his friends. But after that night he was never seen, said De.
Whereas his friends did not see him since Friday, he picked up his mother's phone until late Saturday night. He told his mother what had happened. But after his mother reached campus on Sunday morning he was not found anywhere, said students.
Police said as a precautionary measure they have filed a case under section 365 of Indian Penal Code for kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person.
