The police arrested a man in Sanjaynagar for plotting to kill two witnesses in a murder case. The police arrested Mahesh, 27, from a building in Sanjaynagar.
"Mahesh is a close associate of Rama, alias Poison Rama, the prime suspect in the murder of Althar Tejappashetty Babu in 2008 near Bidadi in Ramanagaram district. Devika Shetty and Prabhu Shetty are the two prime witnesses in Babu's murder case. They are scheduled to record their statement against Rama in a court on Monday. Rama wanted his acquittal in Babu's murder case. He feared he would not be acquitted if the Shettys recordered their statements. Hence, he had directed Mahesh to murder the Shettys before October 17," said a police officer.
The police received information about seven people hiding in a building near Coffee Day in Sanjaynagar planning to murder the Shettys.Mahesh was arrested after a raid on the building, while the others fled. The police are searching for the six others, including Rama," the officer added.
Babu, 58,was leading an anti-liquor lobby campaign. He was murdered on July 21, 2008.
