A number of virtually impaired people and various dignitaries in the city participated in a blindfolded walk organised by India Vision Institute (IVI) at Freedom Park on Friday. The Walk in the Dark as it has been called was conducted to mark 'World Sight Day' on Thursday.
Nicole Faria, film actor flagged off the walk that witnessed the particpation of students from a number of blind schools in the city. Others who participated in the walk included Sean Kelly, Australian Consul General to South India, Shiv Kumar Janardhanan, CEO and Ramachandran, COO, Essilor India Pvt Ltd and Vinod Daniel, CEO, IVI. The walk was organized by IVI.
"Walk in the Dark is an interactive way of drawing attention towards uncorrected refractive error and the danger of 'preventable' blindness. Both issues are easily addressed by a pair of spectacles so that those affected are not hindered by poor vision, or blindness that could have been treated," Daniel said. A total of 150 people participated in the march.
Members of the Ophthalmic and Karnataka Optometry Associations, Samarthanam Trust For The Disabled, Nethradhama School of Optometry, Sankara College of Optometry and the Vasan Institute of Ophthalmology and Research also took part in the walk.
Similar walks which were organized at Chennai in November 2014 and Hyderabad in April 2015 received enthusiastic responses, said a release from IVI.
