The Byatrayanapura police have arrested three persons for robbing two mobile phones from a probationary police sub-inspector (PSI) near Gopalan Mall on September 13. The police said the search is on to nab the fourth person of the gang.

The arrested are Pratap Kumar (21), a driver hailing from Maddur, Kamal Singh (19), a helper in an eatery shop and resident of Nayandahalli and Adarsh (19), mineral water supplier and a resident of ITILayout in Sanjay Nagar. The two mobile phones, which they had robbed from Shivaraj Kumar, have also been recovered.

Shivaraj, a native of Raichur, along with several probationers from other districts had come to the city to attend a month-long training and was residing in Bangalore University campus.

On September 13, Shivaraj was deployed on duty in Byatarayanapura due to ongoing Cauvery water row. Around 7 pm, after he finished his duty, he was waiting for a bus near Gopalan Mall for Bangalore University campus, when four suspects came on a bike and snatched his mobile phones and fled the spot.

Shivaraj chased them but in vain. He then approached the Byatarayanapura police station and registered a complaint.

"During the investigation, the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) numbers of the mobile phones were obtained. The IMEInumber was tracked and it was found that the miscreants had sold the mobile phone to a street vendor in Byatarayanapura. Based on the information provided by the vendor, Singh was arrested from his house in Nayandahalli," said a senior police officer.

"During interrogation, Singh spilled the beans on Kumar and Adarsh, who were also arrested. Efforts are being made to trace the fourth person, who is absconding.

Several robbery cases have been registered against Kumar and Singh in various police stations in the city. They committed crimes to make quick money," added the officer.
