Kadaba is among the 43 places in queue for taluk status, as per the recommendations of the Hundekar, Gaddigowda and Prakash committees, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has said.
"Kadaba will be declared as a taluk in future. The government first grade college will be sanctioned in the next state budget," the chief minister promised, performing the ground-breaking ceremony for the veterinary college and hospital at Koila village of Puttur on Sunday.
"The approval for the government veterinary college and hospital was passed in 2012. The Animal Husbandry Department has given the Veterinary Department 247 acres of its 895 acres and Rs 110 crore will be released for the first phase work. A veterinary hospital, hostels and farm will also come up on campus. The project hopes to improve animal resource in the state," the chief minister explained.
The Veterinary Department needs additional 692 veterinary doctors and 300 assistant directors. Steps are being taken to fill the vacancies and 650 veterinary doctors are already appointed, said Siddaramaiah.
He further said that there are 18,000 beneficiaries under Pashu Bhagya scheme and the target for this year is 26,000 beneficiaries. The additional milk produced by KMFis distributed to schoolchildren under Ksheera Bhagya scheme at present. Following demands, the milk will be distributed to children five days a week, in the days to come.
He further said that we can reach the people only through development programmes and not with communalism. "As per the Constitution, we have agreed to form a secular state. We should build an atmosphere of brotherhood", he insisted.
Animal Husbandry and Sericulture Minister A Manju said that 60 seats at the Veterinary Sciences University will be reserved for students of the college to be built in Koila. "The Koila Veterinary College will be developed as a breeding centre of cattle, along with preservation of local varieties of cattle such as Malenadu Gidda. Also, Rs 500 crore is reserved in the state budget for the same," said the minister.
"Now, 75 lakh litres of milk is being produced in Karnataka daily. Diary farmers are given around Rs 100 crore subsidy and 18,000 people have been beneficiaries of Pashu Bhagya scheme. The government has plans to set up a federation in the model of KMF to produce lamb meat," he added.
Sullia MLA Angara said that the taluk needs a permanent drinking water project and a permanent irrigation project urgently, using water from River Kumaradhara. He reiterated the demand for a government degree college and taluk status for Kadaba.
