A team of 16 MBA (Masters in Business Administration) students from Shanghai University, China, were bowled over by the architectural beauty of the Mysuru Palace and heritage buildings, and the hospitality extended by Mysureans.

The students are on a week-long tour under Student Exchange Programme, hosted by Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute of Management Development (SDMIMD).

Beginning their day with one-hour yoga and wellness programme by a trainer from Patanjali Yoga Shikshana Kendra, they were given ample time amid their busy schedule for sightseeing to absorb the cultural and traditional aspects of the city. Their week-long engaging activity also included industry visits, interaction with corporate leaders and project presentations.

Faces lit up with excitement, the students shared their experience of their week-long stay in Mysuru to Deccan Herald. They explained that their visit during Dasara festivities has come as a bonus for them, as they could capture the illuminated city both on camera and in their minds, which would remain etched in their memories for a long time. They were explained about the festivities and the importance of Dasara for the people of Mysuru and India.

Qi Xinfu said, they had the opportunity to know about the history of Mysuru city and also about the culture and tradition of India. The student exchange programme will surely help in establishing a harmonious relationship between people and the countries. Xinfu said, though he knew about yoga, he got an opportunity to practice it only in India. The illuminated Mysuru city was a visual treat, he said.

Garzon Viteri (Jose Daniel), another student, mentioned that boards at a few restaurants, which read 'Don't waste food', was a good message to the people. The student exchange programme will help in understanding management from an international perspective, he opined.

He recalled his visit to Asha Kirana Charitable Trust and Hospital, a not-for-profit NGO formed by noted persons from varied professional backgrounds, sharing a common concern and commitment towards healthcare.

Cheng Wenjuan said, "Women in India are beautiful. The people's respect for animals, plants and other human beings is great." She was surprised to see the vehicles slowing down to allow animals (cows) to cross the roads.

Zheng Yanmei said, their syllabus prepared by SDM-IMD was meticulous and lauded the lectures by the faculty. They got a hands-on experience about social responsibility and rural development during their visit to SKDRDP (Sri Kshethra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project), where they were explained about empowerment of rural women by organising self-help groups.

The hospitality extended by the people of the city made them very comfortable, said the students in unison. They have purchased incense sticks, key chains and sandalwood replicas of elephants to spread the fragrance of Mysuru in China. However, electronic items were not in their list as most of the gadgets are manufactured in China and imported to India, they said with a smile.
