Cycling enthusiasts will have a fresh race to look forward to when the seventh edition of the Great Malnad Challenge starts from October 15.
The eight-day gruelling 700 KM journey will begin from Mysuru and will see the cyclists passing through the terrains of Kushalnagar, Kukke Subramanya, Sringeri before culminating in Guddekere, near Shivamogga on October 22.
This edition, in association with Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports and Performax, will have 50 cyclists, including eight women, competiting for the top prize.
The race will have three categories — men, women and masters — and the competitors are expected to cover an average distance of 90 KMs a day.
A separate competitive section will also take place on off-road stretches, within a range of 25 to 35 kms everyday, where the cyclists will compete for the top finish.
The event has a total prize money of Rs 4,00,000.
The challenge was jointly flagged off Gururaj G, Chief Adviser of Yuva Spandana Kendra, and Kannada actor Vishaal Hegde.
