A vigilance inquiry is going on over a beautification project of a park in east Delhi after the area councillor filed a complaint against the East Corporations horticulture department for deliberately stalling the work.
The department has now completed the work after a delay of one and a half years.Priyanka Gautam, a councillor from ward number 215, Ghondli had got over Rs 3 lakh sanctioned for the beautification of a park in A Block in 2015.
"I had approached the commissioner after officials failed to carry out the development work. The work order was issued a year ago, but it was not being carried out by the officials," said Gautam.
Work delayed
"When I had complained to the commissioner some four months ago, I got to know that the work was done on paper. But the ground reality was different, no development work had happened then," she added.
"After a vigilance inquiry was ordered into the matter, the officials carried out the beautification of the park." The complaint was registered against officials of the horticulture department of the East Delhi Municipal Corporation.
Officials at the horticulture department said that people used to erect tents at the park for social gatherings "so the work got delayed". An official was also suspended till further notice. "One of the officials was suspended in June end in the matter," he told Deccan Herald.
Officials said that the beautification work of the park has been completed. "Soon after the complaint, the beautification work of the park including growing up grass and planting trees has been completed," the official said.
