The probe into the 'suicide' of former chief minister Kalikho Pul will be handed over to a senior police officer, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu announced here.
According to official sources, Khandu has directed that a senior police officer, not below the rank of an IGP, will head the investigation.
Khandu said this at a high-level meeting on Saturday with Chief Secretary Shakuntala Doley Gamlin, DGP S Nithianandam and Principal Secretary (Home) Satya Gopal, which reviewed the law and order situation in the state capital, official sources added.
Khandu also asked the police to expedite the investigation into Pul's death and complete it within the shortest possible time.
Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh Governor Jyoti Prasad Rajkhowa, who had landed in a controversy following the dismissal of former chief minister Nabam Tuki and installation of Pul, resumed charge as governor on Saturday after a six-week leave.
As Rajkhowa had to remain on leave, Tripura governor Tathagata Roy was given the additional charge of Arunachal Pradesh for the past five weeks.
