The Indian Railways withdrew the travel concession given to senior citizens of foreign origin and non-resident Indians (NRIs).
The decision which has been enforced from immediate effect will deprive foreign and NRIs of the 50% concession they are currently availing in train travels.
Railways revised the rule accordingly and has put the condition that only those train travellers whose nationality is Indian and who reside in India permanently can avail the facility. The rule which has been in operation up till now says that men senior citizen of the age of 60 years and above and 58 years and above in the case of women senior citizen can avail the facility.
The revised rules says that senior citizens of Indian nationality, permanently residing in India of the age of 60 years and above for men senior citizens and 58 years and above in case of women senior citizens will be eligible for concession in passenger fare.
