A bus belonging to the Delhi Public School Bangalore North, ferrying about 50 students, crashed into the school compound on Thursday morning, injuring the driver and two students.

The driver was trying to avoid a parent who was on a two-wheeler, dropping off two children, according to school authorities. The driver was admitted to Columbia Asia Hospital, Hebbal, and was treated for multiple fractures in his leg.

The two students, one in kindergarten and another in Class VI, sustained minor injuries and were treated as outpatients in the same hospital. The school authorities confirmed that the driver was neither speeding nor was he under the influence of alcohol.

However, a senior police officer said, "A staff from the transport section of the school has registered a complaint against the school bus driver, Venkatesh. We have booked him for rash and negligent driving.

"During physical examination, the doctors confirmed that he was not driving under the influence of alcohol. But we have asked the doctors to send Venkatesh's blood samples to the forensic science laboratory and are awaiting the report. Venkatesh claimed that the accident took place due to brake failure, but we cannot confirm this till the vehicle is examined," the officer said.
