A special court will next month pass its order on framing of charges against former MP Vijay Darda and five others, including former coal secretary H C Gupta, in the coal scam case.
The court on Wednesday reserved the order for October 24 after the conclusion of the arguments on framing charges in the case relating to claims of irregularities in the allocation of a coal block in Chhattisgarh.
Darda, his son Devendra and Gupta are among the five who may face charges. It had in November last year refused to accept CBI's closure report and had directed it to conduct further probe into the matter as Darda had "misrepresented" facts in letters written to then prime minister Manmohan Singh, who was holding the Coal portfolio.
The court then said that Darda had done so to get the Fatehpur (East) coal block in Chhattisgarh allotted to JLD Yavatmal Energy Pvt Ltd. It had felt that "prima facie" offence of cheating was committed by private parties in "furtherance of conspiracy" hatched between them and the public servants. Darda had claimed in his lettears dated June 18, 2007 and August 6, 2007 addressed to the then prime minister that M/s JLD was promoted, managed and controlled by Lokmat Group and IDFC, the court had said.
