An Aam Aadmi Party supporter escaped unharmed after he was shot at by a local activist municipal councillor during a fight between the two in southeast Delhi's Jamia Nagar on Thursday evening.

Police have registered a case of attempt to murder. According to the victim the entire incident has been captured in a CCTV camera.

The episode started around 3.30 pm when Wajid, 35, a businessman dealing with construction material in Jamia Nagar had gone to Jasola's councillor Manish Choudhary's office.

Apart from being a businessman, Wajid, is also a supporter of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and is very active in the area to take up local and community related issues.

"I had gone to Choudhary's office to discuss about an issue. Later the Jasola councillor asked me to accompany him to his house which is near his office," said Wajid.

As the two were walking towards Choudhary's house, Irshad Khan, also known as Ashu, bumped into the two, and started having a talk about local issues like the condition of roads and other infrastructure etc.

Ashu is allegedly a social activist from Jamia Nagar and has unsuccessfully tried to fight municipal elections on several occasions previously.

"I was talking about the bad roads of the area on which Ashu got offended and said that he had made the roads repaired and how can anyone criticize it like that," Wajid said.
The argument between the two soon escalated into heated exchange of words, which was only put under control by the intervention of Choudhary.

"Choudhary made us go our separate ways and I took my scooty and started coming towards Batla House in Jamia," Wajid said.

As Wajid and his colleague were riding towards Batla House from Jasola, Ashu driving a Scorpio SUV, started chasing them. He even allegedly tried to hit them with his vehicle.
Wajid and his colleague somehow drove the scooty into a narrow lane which saved them from the chasing SUV.

Wajid then called up the Sarita Vihar station house officer and told him about the incident.

When Wajid reached at Shahin Bagh which is couple of kilometre away from Batla House he saw Ashu standing there with a group of 20-30 people.

Bullet misses target
"He made us come down from the scooty and started beating me. When I tried to defend myself he took out a pistol from his trouser and aimed it towards me. As he was pulling the trigger I immediately made his hand rise up in the air which resulted in the bullet missing its target," Wajid said.

After that also Ashu tried to shoot Wajid thrice but every time the latter managed to dodge the bullet.

According to Wajid, as he is socially very active in the area and a known supporter of the AAP, Ashu considers him as his rival.

"Ashu had previously tried to run for councillor's post in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi's election once from Rashtriya Janata Dal's ticket and after that as an independent candidate. Every time he has been defeated," Wajid said.
