The traffic police on Sunday booked a lieutenant general of the Indian Army for directing his staff to demolish a part of the median in front of his house on Trinity Church Road to create easy way for his car.

"The police registered a case against Lt Gen S P SKatewa and his staff under Indian Penal CodeSections 425 (mischief) and 427 (mischief causing damage) on the directions of senior police officers. The police tried to contact Lt Gen Katewa to discuss the issue, but the efforts failed. Hence, a decision was taken to register a case against him," the Halasuru traffic police inspector told DH.

The Trinity Church Road is about one-km-long and connects TrinityJunction and ASCJunction. The traffic police had constructed the median with hallow bricks. About 50-foot-wide openings were provided at five locations on the stretch for vehicles to take turn. Vehicles bound for the military canteen had caused traffic congestion and also non-fatal accidents.

Hence, the police closed three such openings, including the one in front of the Lt Gen Katewa's house two months ago, said the police. On Sunday morning, Lt Gen Katewa's security staff demolished a part of the median in front of his residence. On being informed by some road users, the traffic police rushed there and inspected the spot.

When questioned, Lt Gen Katewa's security staff told the police that they demolished the median on their boss' instructions to facilitate easy way for his car. Attempts by DHto contact Lt Gen Katewa went in vain. Security staff at his residence claimed that they were not involved in the demolition of the median.
