Congress MLA from Rajarajeshwari Nagar Munirathna and four Congress corporators from his Assembly constituency have decided to resign as public representatives in protest against the "injustice" meted out to Karnataka over the Cauvery water-sharing issue.
Yeshwantpur corporator G K Venkatesh said he and his mentor Munirathna, corporators Velu Naik, Srinivas Murthy and Mohan Kumar, have decided to resign.
"Along with us, our block Congress president Rajkumar will also resign," said Venkatesh.
Resignation letters will be submitted to Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president G Parameshwara, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Mayor B N Manjunath Reddy, Venkatesh said.
"If our leader (Munirathna) agrees, we will tender our resignation to the Governor too. It all depends on him," said Venkatesh.
He added that the decision to resign was taken to lodge their protest against the verdict, which will badly affect farmers and people from Bengaluru, who are largely dependent on Cauvery water.
"This is the least we could do to show our discontent," added Venkatesh.
