The High Court on Tuesday ordered covering of the bust of the late Reverend Father Chasara in front of St Paul The Hermit Church in V Nagenahalli on or before September 26.
It also asked the church to open for services on September 29. Justice H Billappa passed an order to cover the bust of Father Chasara with a wooden plank till the writ petition is disposed of.
The petitioner, Bernard Moras, Archbishop of Bangalore Diocese, approached the High Court challenging the lower court order which had directed him to open the church after it was closed following a canonical decree passed by Moras.
The members of the church wanted to install the bust in memory of the "selfless service" of the late Father Charasa. However, Moras contended that as Father Charasa was just a priest, he must not be worshiped. The judge adjourned the next hearing to October 5.
