Cauvery: Home minister reviews security, tells cops to ensure peace

Home Minister G Parameshwara on Tuesday directed the police to act tough against those indulging in violence on the pretext of protests. Parameshwara also directed the police to take measures to ensure law and order, peace and harmony in the City.

The Home Minister on Tuesday visited the east and border areas and reviewed the security situation there. Parameshwara had visited Byatarayanapura, Kengeri, Vijayanagar, Rajarajeshwarinagar, Chandra Layout, Kamakshipalya, Peenya, Rajagopalnagar, Yeshwantpur and Laggere on Monday night to review security.

He conducted a series of meetings with senior police officers in Madiwala, Mico Layout, Electronics City, Whitefield and Attibele police stations. He obtained information regarding types of security arrangements in the border areas.

The minister held separate meetings with resident welfare associations, Additional Commissioner of Police (East)PHarishekharan told DH.

The home minister visited Attibele and neighbouring areas as well. He directed the police to provide additional security in border areas at night. During his interaction with local residents, Parameshwara asked people not to panic.

"The local police along with ITBP and RAF men conducted route marches in Peenya, Rajagopalnagar, Laggere and Raghunahalli areas on Tuesday morning. The route march was conducted to instil confidence among local residents. The police have intensified patrolling in these areas to tackle any untoward incident, DCP(North)Labhu Ram told DH.

The situation in the city was peaceful on Tuesday.The police had deployed about 15,000 men for security. Additional security was provided at Kempegowda International Airport, bus stands and railway stations.

There was less congestion on most roads due to rumours of flash protests later in the afternoon, said a senior police officer. "Prohibitory orders are in force. Processions, protest rallies and road blockades have been banned. Hence, the police will take stern action against leaders of any organisations if they violate the order," the officer added.

A senior police officer said, "Around 137 people were taken into preventive custody in Nelamangala and 23 people in Attibele and surrounding areas. More people will be taken into custody if required."

" The city police have also taken a few people in to custody and the operation will go out through out the night," said another senior police officer.
