The Congress has indicated that it was amenable to advancing the Parliament Session to ensure completion of the Budget making process well before April 1.
However, it was not agreeable to a change in the financial year as it would be a massive exercise to bring the account books of all business houses, big and small, to align with the new order.
Government sources had earlier indicated that plans were afoot to advance the presentation of the Union Budget from its current date of February 28 with an aim to complete the Budget making processes before the new financial year kicks in on April 1.
"We may not have any problem if the government chooses to change the date of the presentation of the Union Budget," a senior Congress leader said.
At the same time, he made it clear that the Modi government was yet to approach the Congress formally with any proposal to this effect.
