The Assam government has once again written to the Centre to ask the army to supervise the ongoing border fencing work along the Indo-Bangladesh border.

Last month, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and requested him to hand over the fencing work in the state to the army as it was done for the India-Pakistan border in Jammu and Kashmir sector.

Sonowal's government, which competed its 100 days in office last Wednesday, is of the opinion that the 280-km border must be totally sealed. "We have written to the Centre, requesting them to use the services of the Indian Army to supervise the border fencing work," said Sonowal at a press conference in Guwahati on Wednesday.
